questions people ask
how the calls work, what shops are told, and what it costs — answered properly, including the parts that are less flattering.
the basics
what does repear actually do?
you tell peary what broke — a few details, and a photo if you have one. peary finds repair businesses near you, phones them, describes the job, and asks what it would cost and when they could do it. what the shops said comes back into the app so you can compare it in one place and pick one. you never make the calls yourself.
why not just call a few shops myself?
you can, and most of us do — for about two calls. then it stops feeling worth the afternoon. the problem is the shop you didn't call: the next one down the list might be $50 cheaper, or $200, or fix it under a warranty you forgot you had. peary makes the calls nobody has the patience to make, so the cheaper option doesn't stay hidden just because it was seventh on the list.
what kinds of repairs does it work for?
phones, laptops and computers, appliances, tvs and electronics, and home repairs are the usual ones, but repear isn't built around a fixed list of categories. the rule of thumb is simple: if something broke and you'd rather fix it than replace it, try repear first. it isn't meant for emergencies — if water is coming through the ceiling or the heat is out in january, call someone directly.
do i need to know what's wrong with it?
no. describe it the way you would to a friend — the screen flickers when i open it, it makes a grinding noise on the spin cycle. add a photo if you can. peary works out what to ask the shops and comes back to you if something important is missing.
the calls
does peary really phone the shops, or is it sending forms?
real phone calls, placed through our telephony provider. an ai voice speaks to whoever picks up, describes the job, and asks about price, timing, and any service or diagnostic fee. the hold music, the transfer, the call back later — peary sits through that part instead of you.
do the shops know it is an ai calling?
yes. a shop hears an ai voice calling on behalf of a customer, not a recording of you and not someone pretending to be you. your own voice is never put on a call, and shops reach you through repear rather than directly.
read AI and callswhat do you tell a shop about me?
your first name, where the work needs doing — the full address only if you chose to give one, what needs fixing, what the ai saw in your photo, and how soon you need it. shops are not given your last name, your phone number, or your email. if you accept a quote, peary calls that shop back to confirm and passes on the price and timing you agreed.
what gets sent, and to whomare the calls recorded?
calls peary places are transcribed and may be recorded, so the quote in your app matches what was actually said, and so a disagreement later can be settled by what was on the call. the transcript sits with the job, and you can read it. a shop can return the call for up to 72 hours; those calls are handled the same way.
privacy policywhat if nobody answers, or nobody can help?
you see the outcome of every call, including the ones that went nowhere — closed, no answer, doesn't cover your area, doesn't work on that brand. an empty result is still an answer: it usually means the job needs a different kind of specialist, and it saves you making those calls to find out.
how long does it take to hear back?
calls start going out once the job is live, and each quote lands as its call finishes, so you get them one at a time rather than waiting for a full set. the honest answer on total time is that it depends on how many shops near you are open and picking up.
cost and limits
what does it cost?
your first job is free. after that, a best fren subscription is $4.99 a month and renews monthly until you cancel. in-app purchases are billed by apple or google through your store account; a web purchase is billed by stripe through our payments provider. the repair itself is paid to the shop you choose — the subscription covers peary doing the calling, not the work.
is it unlimited calling?
no, and we would rather say so up front. every job spends real money on voice ai, phone minutes, and local business data, so there are usage limits: a daily cap on jobs, limits on ai usage, and limits on concurrent voice sessions. normal use doesn't run into them. the app tells you when you reach one and when it resets. a limit we can sustain beats unlimited that gets taken away three months in.
usage limits in the termsare the quotes binding?
no. a quote is what a shop said on the phone before seeing the item, so a real price can move once they inspect it, and availability changes. treat quotes as a shortlist of who is worth your time and what the range looks like, not as a contract.
who am i actually hiring — repear or the shop?
the shop. repair businesses are independent, and the work, the price, and any warranty are between you and the one you pick. repear arranges the quotes and confirms the booking; it is not a repair company and does not take a cut of the job.
terms of servicehow do i cancel?
if you subscribed in the app, cancel in your store's subscription settings — the app store or google play, whichever sold it; we can't cancel a store subscription for you. if you subscribed on the web, use the management link in the receipt emailed to you. cancelling stops the next renewal and access runs to the end of the period you already paid for. refunds are handled by whoever billed you — apple, google, or stripe — and we'll help you chase one if a charge looks wrong.
account and launch
where do i get the app?
repear is live on the app store for iphone, and new users get their first job free. android is not out yet — there is a short list on the home page if you want an email the day it lands, and nothing else.
get repear on the app storehow do i delete my account and everything on it?
profile → delete my account, inside the app. that removes your profile, jobs, photos, quotes, call records, and messages from the live database, tries to hang up anything still connected, and starts cleanup with our storage, identity, and telephony providers — retried if a provider is down, though it isn't instant physical deletion from provider systems or backups. two things are deliberately kept: an unreadable hash used to stop the free first job being reissued, and a returned call that might belong to another person's job, until its 14-day window runs out. deleting your account does not cancel a subscription, and it does not cancel work you already booked with a shop.
what deletion coversi found a bug, or i have an idea. where does that go?
email support@repear.ai. repear is small enough that a good idea can still change the product, and bug reports go straight to the person who wrote the bug.
